Description

In this well-structured introduction to the flexible and forgiving medium of acrylics, Terry Harrison will show you how to paint a wide variety of subjects, focusing particularly on the extensive range of brushes he has developed.

The book begins with a thorough guide to choosing your equipment, including paints, mediums, additives and surfaces as well as the little things like pencils and masking tape. This section also looks at colour choices and mixing, on which Terry is particularly sound.

In the second section, Terry explains in detail how to use his own range of brushes. If you don't want to stock up on all of these, you'll probably find you have equivalents, but some are quite unique and the Wizard, with its two hair lengths, makes short work of grasses, reflections and foliage while the Fan Gogh is handy for clouds and the Half Rigger makes detail work much easier than its full length cousin.

Terry now demonstrates a variety of techniques for painting trees, reflections, snow and more. He also looks at ways to create the effect of distance, introduce life in the form of birds, animals and figures and to handle texture mediums and glazing.

The book concludes with a series of six step-by-step demonstrations covering winter and summer landscapes and a coastal scene as well as flowers, buildings and even a Venetian setting.
